About Kruisherenhotel Maastricht
Maastricht city-centre design hotel
Dating back to the 15th century, the former Kruisheren monastery and adjoining Gothic church have been transformed into a spectacular design hotel, located in the heart of Maastricht’s historic centre. A member of Design Hotels™, Kruisherenhotel Maastricht combines thought-provoking architecture with original features throughout the 60 ultra-modern guestrooms, each with their own individual quirks and details.
The church’s impressive nave has been sensitively reimagined to create an arresting, semi-open place space that encompasses the hotel reception, restaurant, bar, meeting spaces, library, glass elevator and three lounge corners tucked away in former side chapels. Artfully elevated at mezzanine level, within near touching distance of the immense chancel windows, the notable Kruisheren Restaurant provides a draw for both guests and locals. Nestled below, the Wine Bar Rouge & Blanc creates an intimate space where the unique glass cellar offers a contemporary centrepiece.
Throughout the interior, the narrative between old and new is frequently referenced through allusions to images featured in the original stained glass and ceiling frescoes. This striking combination of ancient and modern has been thoughtfully balanced by internationally renowned interior designer, Henk Vos, and complemented with lighting installations by German artist, Ingo Maurer. Pieces by masters of design punctuate the furnishings, with contributions from Le Corbusier and Rietveld, as well as contemporary artists such as Marc Newson, Piet Heyn Eeck, Philippe Starck and Roderick Vos.
Sheltered at the centre of the building, the quadrangle terrace is the perfect spot to enjoy al fresco dining or a chilled glass of Champagne from the Ruinart bar. The manicured garden, bordered by the evocative cloister corridor, also provides a peaceful sanctuary amid the hustle and bustle of the city. Located in a cosmopolitan city, Kruisherenhotel Maastricht’s multilingual staff excels in welcoming guests from across the globe and making them feel at home in Maastricht.
Maastricht – a city poised between old and new
Primly positioned in the heart of Maastricht city centre, the Kruisherenhotel is located on the attractive Kommelplein Square - just five minutes’ walk from the famous Vrijthof Square.
Renowned for its age-old architecture, picturesque plazas and cobbled streets lined with boutiques, cafes and restaurants, Maastricht has emerged a lively and energetic modern city, steeped in history. Contemporary additions such as Hoge Brug (High Bridge) and the Aldo Rossi designed Bonnefanten Museum, combined with the state-of-the-art MECC conference centre, host of the annual European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF), make Maastricht a compelling draw for both short weekend getaways and business trips.
