Impression

History Villa Casa Blanca

In 1928, Pierre Hardy, Camille Oostwegel Sr’s maternal grandfather, bought a piece of land from Baron Robert de Sélys de Fanson, the then owner and resident of Château St. Gerlach. Architect, Ir. Fritz Peutz from Heerlen was commissioned to design a villa in a classic country house style, with thatched roof and colonnade. The plans were too dated for Hardy, who challenged Peutz to create a contemporary house fit for modern times. This is how Villa Casa Blanca became Maastricht’s first cubist home and has since become a national treasure and an important expression of modernist architecture.

Four generations of the Oostwegel family have made the truly unique house a home. Over the years it has evolved to include a terraced garden, commissioned in 1988 by Camille Oostwegel Sr and created by famous landscape gardener, Ir. Wil Snelder. Also, in 2000 a garden room was added to the villa and well-known designer, Henk Vos from Groningen redesigned the interiors.
