Family business

In 1980 Camille Oostwegel sr. Started his first castle exploitation together with his wife Judith and developed this into the family business we all know; Oostwegel Collection. In the year 2015, Camille Oostwegel Sr. has taken a back seat allowing his son to fully understand and learn the role as Managing Director of the company. On January 1, 2020, Camille Oostwegel sr. transferred the baton as owner and Managing Director of the family business to his son, Camille. Camille’s sisters have also been involved in the company for a certain time. Middle sister Michelle is assistant chef at Château St. Gerlach and youngest sister Françoise is co-responsible for the interior styling of the locations. However, there is no complete farewell for Camille Oostwegel sr. as he became a member of the Supervisory Board and stays involved in his great passions; the gardening of the 20 hectares of estate near the houses and telling stories during the culture tours.

About Camille Oostwegel

Camille Oostwegel (1986) grew up in Houthem-St. Gerlach. As the eldest of three children, it soon became apparent that he had a growing passion for the catering industry. From an early age he worked in the family business of his father Camille Oostwegel sr. His first job was in the Technical Service of Château St. Gerlach.

After completing high school, Camille chose the Hotel Management School Maastricht where he graduated in 2009 and started working temporarily as Manager Operations at Winselerhof, Camille obtained a master in Hospitality Management in 2011 – a duo program from the Hotel school in The Hague and the RSM Erasmus University in Rotterdam. While working towards his future career through Vita Futura, a Starwood’s Graduate Management Program, at The Westin Palace Madrid, specialising in Sales. After working in Madrid for 1.5 years, Camille crossed the ocean to work for the Westin & Le Méridien at the global headquarters of Starwood Hotels & Resorts (now Marriott) in New York in the Global Brand Management team. After 2.5 years in New York, he returned to The Netherlands in July 2015 to start working in the family business and work side by side with his father towards the time of the pass on.

On January 1, 2020, the baton was officially passed on from father to son and Camille holds the position of Owner & General Director of Oostwegel Collection.

In addition Camille is one of the founding partners of Maas Cleanup, for taking action in making the river and its tributaries plastic-free and creating a solution to the litter problem. Camille is a member of the Supervisory Board of Lumière Cinema, a film house in Maastricht. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Relais & Châteaux, an international association of luxury hotels and restaurants. Camille is married to Meredith Stark-Oostwegel and father of two sons.

About Camille Oostwegel Sr.

Camille Oostwegel sr. (1950), founder of Oostwegel Collection, was born and raised in South Limburg. During his childhood Camille Oostwegel sr. developed on an early age a passion for cultural history and gastronomy. After studying at the Hoge Hotel school in Maastricht, he started working for the French Accor group from 1972 to 1980. In Luxembourg he already held a director’s position at the age of 25. In 1980 he returned to Limburg and started his first castle exploitation as an independent entrepreneur. Under his leadership, a dozen National Monuments were completely restored with a critical eye for detail and were used as hotel / restaurant. Beautiful parks, gardens and nature reserves have been laid out around the houses and aims as a special added value for Oostwegel Collection.

As of January 1, 2020, Camille Oostwegel sr. has become a member of the Supervisory Board of Oostwegel Collection.
