Construction of the Kruisheren Cloister began in 1440 when Edidius van Elderen donated land to the Order of the Holy Cross.

Monastery

Built over several decades, the property as it stands today, was completed in 1520. Resided in by monks until 1797, their eviction saw it used as a military barracks during the French Revolution.

Restoration
A place of many guises

In the 19th century Dutch cultural aficionado, Victor de Stuers, with architect, Cuypers, undertook its restoration. Over the years it underwent various guises, including housing the National Agricultural Research Station and acting as a temporary parish church.
