A First for Dutch Five-Star Hotels
We’ve never been ones to turn down a challenge and have always taken the environment, sustainability, teamwork, community and our clients seriously, so it was a natural development to align Oostwegel Collection with an organisation that stringently adheres to a similar narrative.

After many months of hard work and dedication we achieved verification for meeting B Lab’s high standards for social and environmental impact, accountability and transparency. Established in 2006, this non-profit is committed to certifying companies that meet the benchmark it sets to realise its vision of an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy that works for everyone. As the first five-star hotel company in The Netherlands to attain such recognition we are thrilled to be part of this global movement.
Tessa van Soest, Director of B Lab Benelux stated, “Being able to welcome Oostwegel Collection to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in the hospitality industry to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit”.
Why B Corp?
Sustainability and mindful business practices have always been an important part of our company culture. We believe working together is the way to ensure a truly regenerative legacy. And its always advantageous to hold ourselves to account, which is where B Lab comes in.
The non-profit behind the B Corporation movement, B Lab advocates collective change in standards, policies, tools and programs that shift behaviour, culture and capitalist structures to be more inclusive, equitable and economically regenerative. A force for good, it’s where the rules of business are made more accountable, with the focus on five key impact areas – governance, workers, community, environment and customers.
Benchmark
Certification is rigorous. The OC team worked together knowing that we needed to score at least 80 out of 200 points to make the grade. There were also reams of evidence to produce, confirming our social and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supply, waste, water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. No mean feat, but something we’ve been dedicated to for many years and have worked tirelessly to achieve.
our commitment
So now we’re a fully verified B Corp business, we have to ensure we continue to meet B Lab’s high standards for social and environmental impact. This also comes with a legal commitment to stakeholder governance, demonstrating accountability and transparency by disclosing performance records in a public B Corp profile.
Every three years we will be expected to undertake further assessment and verification, demonstrating that B Lab’s standards are still being met and that the interests of stakeholders are being prioritised over profit.
a sense of community
As one of only eight businesses in the hospitality field who has achieved B Corp verification in Benelux, we are now part of a 10,000 strong global business community working collectively for economic system change. Within this number a whole cross section of industries is represented, of which 500 exist in Benelux.
ambitious future
Owner and Managing Director of Oostwegel Collection, Camille Oostwegel commented “Achieving B Corp certification marks an important milestone for our family business which celebrates its 45th anniversary this September. We have invested in making our hotels and restaurants more sustainable and in strengthening our positive contribution to the community. The certification process challenged us to critically evaluate every aspect of our operation and make improvements where needed. While we are proud of what we have achieved, we see this very much as a starting point. Our ambition is to continuously raise the bar and demonstrate that hospitality and responsibility for people and planet go hand in hand.”
