Every year, we welcome Spring festively in South Limburg, with the world-famous art fair TEFAF from 14 till 19 March. Apart from the beautiful artpieces presented by a selection of national and international art galleries at the fair, various activities are organised annually to celebrate art and culture. Giardino Gallery & Sculpture Garden
This year Art Gallery Giardino organises Art Fair Gerlach and Sculptures @ Estate Gerlach, during which the gallery exhibits various pieces from their collection, presented in the treasury of the St. Gerlachus Church as well as in the estate gardens. During the opening weekend, you can also take part in activities such as a wine tasting, or enjoy a discount for your visit to the Museum of Valkenburg.
Photo Museum on the Vrijthof
Housed in the historic Spanish Gouvernement, the photo museum's collections activate your imagination with stunning photographs by both well-known and yet-to-be-discovered artists. Discover the wonderful world German fashion and art photographer Ellen von Unwerth in her exhibition My Circus and admire her work from 31 January to 13 September 2026. Bonnefanten Museum
Maastricht's most prominent museum also unpacks to usher in the art season, welcoming new exhibitions by Eline Kersten: Food for thought on the theme of climate and Four times Two: half a century of art from the collection. The Bonnefanten museum is known for its vision in which unknown artists in ancient, contemporary and modern art take centre stage, making it the ideal way to discover new talents.
Marres
Tucked away in a side street of Maastricht's Vrijthof, is the House for Contemporary Culture. Offering a wide range of exhibitions, activities and events, and educational workshops that broaden your cultural world. During the TEFAF period, enjoy the works of RAW Material Company - Porous Grounds, Sacred Codes and combine it with a lunch or dinner at Marres Kitchen.
The Glazerij
Local stained glass artist, Guido Dilweg, is organising special evening workshops during TEFAF. First, take a deep dive in the history of stained glass art before letting creativity flow in making your own unique piece of glas art. Rather an art admirer than creative, you can see Guido's artwork displayed in the newly renovated rooms of Château St. Gerlach.
Objects of obsession
Carmen Vollebergh pushes the bounderies of jewellery design and creates pieces to be treasured. Launching during the TEFAF week, Carmen has developed a new line called BRUT. A collection of jewellery crafted with great attention to detail, elegantly reflecting the roughness of precious natural minerals. View the new collection and her other work at the local jewellery shop Clio in the city centre of Maastricht.
Fashion & jewellery
From the museum to the street, fashion and jewellery have always been a way of expressing ourselves. What began as a basic necessity has developed into a true art movement, and thus not to be missed during this period.
